inner work - ‘should’ detox

hello ‘shoulds’

  • you can’t just sit around.

  • you need to be productive.

  • you have to do something with your life.

  • one day you might achieve something worthwhile.

  • think of how much more people will like you and admire you.

  • but don’t rest on your laurels you need to keep going

  • you always say you’re going to do great things and then you always fail

  • you’re inconsistent.

  • you’re a disappointment.

  • you have not fulfilled your potential.

  • you’ll never achieve what you could achieve.

  • oh what’s the point.

  • you are a loser.

  • but you have to keep pretending that you’re not.

  • you’ll be found out.

  • i must make sure nobody finds out i’m a loser.

imagine just one day without this noise in your head. in fact imagine just one hour.

who would you be without this accusing voice?

your mind would say ……you’ll just be a slob. you’ll sit around all day eating doritos and watching box sets.

so try a ‘should’ detox. notice but essentially ignore that voice and instead start to listen and trust your own intuition, inner voice, gut feeling.

if it feels scary you’re probably on the right track.

my prediction - you will start to feel like a slow motion action figure as if you’re in your body for the first time. It will feel deliciously naughty.

what might start to change:

  1. you decide more consciously what you do with your time

  2. you don’t laugh at crap jokes

  3. you cancel social events that you never wanted to go to

  4. you get better at saying no with a smile

  5. you start to tell the people around you how you are actually feeling and you are curious as to how they are ‘reaaaaally’ feeling

  6. you might need to walk and cry

  7. you might not

  8. you seem to have more time

  9. your mind will panic and double down on ‘should’s’ for a while

  10. the sky will not fall in.

dare you.
